..... re. the family of:   Samuel Watson Thornton b. 1903

Today is May 9, 2023
In an attempt to respond to Sarah Jane Miller Johnson's recent search for prints of the "glass negatives" Phil Woerner made available for our enjoyment, I turned to Marcia and Susie for help. The harddrive on the pc holding those files crashed and burned. With their help the files were restored and are available at "wmsonton.com", a site funded by Rob Caldwell.

Back in 2021 cousin Phil Woerner offered some “glass negatives” dating from the Japan years when the first five Thornton children were born to SW and Mary. These were forwarded to Joe Yarbrough to ascertain as to their useability. One of the negatives was broken, but Joe managed to reclaim it with only 1 of the 8 persons in the image unrecognizable - poor Chuck!
He advised that the negatives were found to be high quality worthy for development. As it turned out the photos are not duplicates of the many handed down previously and are a welcome sight?
Joe does beautiful work. I am the beneficiary of a delightful collage of photos he revived, arranged, and framed. He also recovered the beautiful photo of our Great Aunt, viewable at Effe Thorpe .

He was a lad growing up in Greenfield when grandpa, J B Thornton, was bedridden and he, being the age of the MacKenzie’s, knew that household well. He wrote a brief verse of "Grandma Thornton caring for grandpa as he lay bedridden in front of the north doors of the rusty red brick house.”

Sorry, I have no idea how to present such good work as this.

Perhaps someone will organize and identify them properly - in order that our grandchildren can ascertain the relationship. …. The elderly couple is Chas. Herbert & Mattie Bennett Gash, Chuck’s, that is; Charles Gash Thornton’s, maternal grandparents.
