During the 1960's  I rented land and resided on property of the G B Metcalf
heirs. (300 acre). During those years Edith (Orr) Metcalf resided in her home
just 1/2 mile distant. Since Charles J. (her husband) death, she had rented her
farm (300 acres) and the tenants lived under the same roof with her. She had
the front - lower level, and the tenant had the rear - lower, and the full upstairs.
She had several tenants due to this "living arrangement".
Edith and I had visited concerning my renting her farm, but we were not
willing to fall into such a living arrangement. Then, in 1966 she realized that
her failing health would require personal attention so she chose to move and be
with her sister in Evansville, In. It was in Evansville where her death occurred.
In her absence we moved into her spacious home and rented the land.
Thus, I have lived on and rented 600 acres of the land improved by the Metcalf
families in the 1830's. (The "private burial site" referred to in the sketch was in
good condition at that time.)         Sam Thornton Jr  24 Jan 1938 -
