teaching  profession. He and Mom were making preparation to return to Japan.
This celebration honored their years as pastor / musician for this congregation.

Marcia - the photos are wonderful.......

    ..... the "unknown" with Dad in one of the shots might be Ross Baum, from the St. Louis area, who was a photographer and came to Greenfield frequently and even took photos at some of the family weddings.The event was their going away reception, hence a retirement event, just before the folks left for Japan in 1970. I was in the Navy and came up from Pensacola, etc. As it happens, I was reading thru some of Mom's journals that Nancy has and Mom had written about the reception in the first of one of the journals - as follows:

    Farewell reception at church June 7th, 1970. Lovely way for them to say goodbye - Marilyn, Burdella, Helen, Barbara Kahl, Mrs. Thaxton, ...Elhofer, Normadean, Mildred Burns, Marge Bowman, Brenda & Mrs. Hilyard served.
        Coffee, punch, cake (Rom. 8:28) and cookies.          Rindy had guest book. Perc and Lalla, David Thorntons, Nelson and Lydia, Woerners and Bowmans, Tostbergs, Baums, etc.

    Family (Caldwells, John and Sam Thorntons, Mother, Aunt Effe, Joe and Mrs. Argall at our house for dinner on .....
    Ruth and boys stayed over and she helped get things cleaned out, etc. Wonderful to have her here.

    Charles came last week - Had a good visit - He went back to St. L. with Dave Thorntons......
    Cathy here too - she helped move Nancy to Springfield into Marie's and Laura's apartment. 
    Last morning we had breakfast at Esther and Dean's as our stove packed by Paul for Ulners. They and John and Marcia went to airport to see us off. Had pictures taken while standing eating, drinking refreshments.
(Dots/spaces in text are also in mom's text - guess she couldn't remember the date/name at the time she wrote the entry. Even the date of the reception was written in with different ink!)
