First I would have you know that growing up "a preachers kid", or "attending church regularly", or "being a deacon", or any number of other "good things" I may have done, while on the earth, did not and will not  save me from God's  holy, righteous wrath.  Romans 1:18  (GNV) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of men, which withhold the truth in unrighteousness.  2 Corinthians 5:10  (ESV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
My disobedience (unrighteousness) placed me on the wrong side of the equation in regard to life and death (death being "separation from God"). If I were a "follower of God", I would live in obedience to His Word, the bible. The same chapter in John which states that God loves me so much He gave His only Son to save me (chap. 3, vs. 16), also states in verse 36 that:   He that believeth in the Son, hath everlasting life, and he that obeyeth not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
I am a failure apart from the fact that Christ came to my rescue and gave me the unmerited "hope of eternal life"! If you choose, see my testimony to that fact at:

My time on earth has been divided between three locations. The first fifteen years were spent in the Cook Station, Mo. area, except a year at Roach, MO., and the remainder at this location - except that during my 12th grade at Greenfield Comm. School I enlisted in the Army under the E R program and that October,1956, began 6 months on active duty in places like Ft Leonard Wood, MO, and Ft Riley, KS., then followed by 3 years as an Active Reservist.         As it turned out my children have made their homes in, or nearby Greenfield, Il., the place where they grew up.
        The first,
Samuel Watson Thornton lll, b. 7/9/1960, works at a local shop specializing in the manufacture and installation of grain handling equipment. His wife, Tracy, supports family and community on several fronts with her organizational expertise.

Douglas Eugene Thornton, b. 4/1/1962, chose to stay on the land and, along with his sons, is farming in the area around Greenfield. Doug's wife, Shirley, is the Circuit Clerk of Greene County.

Susan Wesley, b. 11/16/1963, married a local farmboy, John Lansaw. They farm his "homeplace" while he works as a milwright in a local shop and she holds employment at the hospital, now known as Memorial of Jacksonville.
